Nick Clegg Meets...
Politicians have let people down, they feel disconnected from the old, Westminster-based style of politics. I am determined to change that & why I host open invitation public meetings across the UK & have been doing so since I became Party Leader.See More

Mr Mountjoy, you mention that Principles and standards come before stability?
We are a political party that, as far as I known, are trying to look out for Britain's best interests. We knew trouble would come to the lib-dems if we joined with the conservatives, but we had no choice. We joined them for the good of the nation; we had no choice because we are a party that cares for the people of this nation. It seems the leaders of this party seem to care enough to risk their own political annihilation.
I am not justifying all of what Mr Clegg did, especially signing that pledge! Why make a cast iron guarantee, if you’re not 100% sure!
It seems though that now everything is being blamed on Mr Clegg, the Torys seem to have successfully turned public outrage on the lib-dems and Nick Clegg. It must be a very difficult position to be in. This is the first time the Liberal Democrats have been in seats of power since the National coalition (correct me if I’m wrong), the Liberals in cabinet had to make very difficult decisions, considering the situation. I think we have done well considering everything that has happened since May last year, we just have to believe all the reforms and cuts will save Britain which will then save us as a party.
Just some thoughts from a grassroots lib-dem.
Hey Nick,
If you stand for the democratic principles and fairness credentials of the Liberal Democrats, then why don't you try standing for re-election as leader? Plenty of people are leaving this party and I am deeply saddened by the loss of direction and identity this party is experiencing as a result of the events leading up to the grim loss of the referendum on AV.
The road that must be taken to a better Britain is not an easy one, but principle and standards must be placed before a short term victory or stability. We do not walk a smooth road to a better Britain, but we can do it in a way that follows the mandate we hold and the promises we have made. Today we are ridiculed for the failings of the party leadership, and our party suffers as a result of the compromises made. There is always time and need for change, and the results in Scotland tell us that we live in a changing Britain in changing times. You as a leader must adapt to this change and understand that you cannot always lead your flock through the highs and lows.
Please recognise now that the coalition needs revising and that simple deliverances of minor promises do not motivate the electorate to support what we stand for the most; a fair and effective Government and country. We have much to face as a party, and only together as a coherent and united front can we achieve our goals, we cannot sit by and watch backroom deals be the defining point of our tenure.
No matter what the outcome, letting us as a party decide how we want to be represented is critical for governing legitimately and effectively, and renewing chances of a better Britain.
Hi Nick.
Just sending you my 100% support.
Whatever anyone says, you're doing a good job! Glad you decided to put out there what the Lib Dems are achieving in government and some of the madness has died down.
And if anyone else supports you and the coalition and are on facebook they can join my group, Supporters of Nick Clegg and the Coalition: http://www.facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=group_182640531765256¬if_t=group_activity
Keep up the good work!

Sorry Nick, on all evidence so far I have lost faith. Not sure if I will be in the party next year as yet - I may join half of our other members and leave because it appears we are now the conservative party rather than a liberal party
This sums up what most (statistically) people in the country think at the moment ...

. If this isn't the truth you need to show us it isn't AND NOW. As I said though, you have not done anything at all to demonstrate the opposite at the moment and you have wrecked our party. Thanks.
I hope the New Year brings you peace and that you can find momentum to reassure people and the Government is trying its best. People have genuine concerns and they have a right to be heard - but maybe the way they go about things is not right. I have been in Edinburgh these last few months and the concerns of the students are valid but I am aware that not all their motivations are just. I am glad I have my degree under my belt as studying and staying the course was very hard - when you come from a low income houshold - but I do believe that it was a great priviledge going to university and maybe giving something back to the system that got me there in the first place is the right thing to do.
Thank you for accepting me a friend, it has been great being a part of your 'team' even if only in a small way.
All the best, Abbie.
Just sending you my support.
Hope you're not feeling the stress too much. You've had a lot to do with Cameron being away.
Well done holding the fort!

I HAVE MADE A FEW COMMENTS ON MY PROFILE THAT GIVE AN IDEA OF THE THINGS THAT WORRY ME - I HAVE SOCIO-POLITICAL CONCERNS THAT GENERALLY FOCUS ON THE VALUE OUT SOCIETY PUT ON THOSE WHO DEPEND ON IT FOR SUPPORT AND CARE. I HOPE YOU WILL GLANCE THOUGH IT SOME TIME.
GOOD LUCK WITH ALL YOU ARE AIMING TO ACHIEVE AND THANKS FOR BRINGING ALISTER CARMICHAL INTO THE FOLD - HE IS A FAB MP FOR US IN ORKNEY AND WILL BE GREAT ASSET TO YOU IN WESTMINSTER..
