For all those who are liberal and also want the voting system to be.The First Past The Post system hands power to the lucky few who live in marginal constituencies and sucks it away from the vast majority of us who do not.
I suppose it is a fairly topical subjext at the moment, but it is one of my bug bears. I object to the way that large businesses ride rough shod over the rights of their employees - specially their ex-employees - There is little opportunity to join a union in many jobs today, the HR department seems to be there only to protect the rights of the company, and many people are to scared to say anything because they are scared of losing their jobs. My last job was as Health and Safety Coordinator for a very large insurance company in the city. a large part of ths was to carry out Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Assessments for employees. Howver, if I advised their Managers that they needed a replacement chair, or some other piece of equipment, the Managers would often ignore my advice, and the employee would be concerned that if I put my recommendation forward, that it would put their job at risk - so much for the DSE legislation!
Sorry, I got so carried away complaining about my last employer, I forgot to answer your message!
Glad the BBQ was good. I'm sure it would be very interesting to meet the other LIb-Dem members.
Hi Luke
Maidstone?, well, to be honest, any shopping centre on a Saturday morning tends to fill me with a sense of dread. Having said that, it was a nice day (as you know) , and apart from having to pay a cheque in, we also took a picture in to get re-framed. The re-framing is a birthday present from Mum, so we have a week to wait.
The cheque I had to pay in was from my previous employer. My previous employer is a very large international corporate company. I paid the money out on their behalf just before I was made redundant, and I have had to wait ten months for it to be returned to me (and this was only with the intervention of the Citizens Advice Bureau. Now all I have to do is to persuade them to pay me my 7 days outstanding annual leave, which I have also been waiting ten months for!
Hi Luke.
I'm afraid we got back from Maidstone later than expected, but I hope the event went well, and that you had a good time at the BBQ this evening.
If I see you in Snodland, and recognise you, I will indeed say hello as long as you do the same :>)
Hi Luke
We would have loved to have come to the BBQ tonight, but I'm afraid we simply can't afford it at the moment as I was made redundant, and am currently looking for a job, so out social life has to be a little more frugal at the moment.
Although I think the free microchipping is a brilliant idea, Poppy is already microchipped, although thanks for the suggestion.
We had every intention of going to the "Bash the trash" event today anyway, but, we have received a cheque this morning that must be paid into my account in Maidstone today. I wonder if it is possible to join in a little bit later? If not, I do hope that the event goes very well.
Neil
We do have a dog (we had two up to February), but we live in Queens Road (!) . We sometimes walk her up Holborough Road on the way back from the river.
I have only recently re-joined the Lib-dems after many years out in the cold. I didn't know that there was a garden party in West Malling tomorrow, so I wasn't intending to go (fairly obviously I suppose!)

Hi Luke
Only just logged into ACT for the first time in months so here's an incredibly belated hello!
