Is Freedom served by Killing Foxes?

Is it right to claim that civil liberties are infringed when I can't kill a fox from horseback with hounds in the country when I couldn't do so in the towns. What is the difference between dog-fighting and fox-hunting. Is neither cruel, or are both?

Liberals supporting the end of the Gaza Blockade

Our government should stand up to murder and oppression wherever it occurs - even when it is conducted by Israel. We should be calling for the immediate removal of the Palestinian blockage to let the amount of relief suggested by the UN into Gaza

I Agree With Nick

Initially we were committed to supporting the Liberal Democrat party and its leader through the coalition and into the future. Can we still fully justify that position in our current situtaion?

I returned from the Lib Dem conference in Liverpool on Monday and I really enjoyed it. It was a fantastic experience and I wish I could have stayed the whole 5 days. I am planning to do so next year for the Autumn conference. It was the perfect inspiration I needed for my candidate approval next week. Also, to help with my campaigning afterwards to become an elected councillor!!!

Is now planning to stand as a local councillor in the elections next year, having fun wrestling with the paper work, though.

Having become very interested in politics and become a member of the party, I am now seriously thinking of the possibility of becoming a Liberal Democrat councillor. I was wondering where's the best place to get some information about this?

Hello Amanda, Although I've been a Lib Dem member for 18 years now, it's only this year that I've started to get actively involved. You can start by enquiring through your constituency party about local branches. I am part of a group that is attempting to set up a new branch in the Suffolk Coastal Constituency - Blyth Valley Liberal Democrats. I have assumed the role of Acting Chair and our launch event is tomorrow - it's a little daunting but I am feeling very enthusiastic but we need more members to come froward from our branch area, so we have challenges ahead. We have for many years had a very active branch further south in the constituency - Alde Valley - and I have always received mailings from them about their events because my name appears on the constituency membership list. So contact your local party and ask about a local branch you could join. Also with the local elections coming up next year, the party is always looking for volunteers to deliver leaflets etc. Your Constituency Party should have a Campaign Committee that you could approach. Mind you since I've been using the LibDem website, I am discoverying all sorts of other ways one can be involved. Good Luck with your degree - as a teacher myself, I love academic study and could be a student all my life in an ideal world!! I've been doing an Art History research module evening class at UEA on their continuing education programme, which I've really enjoyed but since I registered two years ago the course programme has been so severely cut back because of reductions in government funding that there is little choice. I now have a 4000 word dissertation to write before I go back to school in September!! Best wishes, Lesley

I have just actually filled in an application form to join the Liberal Democrat Party and sent it off earlier in the week, so hopefully I will hear something back soon. Thank you for welcoming me though.
