What's it all about...

Can you explain your passion, Chris? From what I've read in the past there hasn't been much investment in thorium reactors - mainly because they're not useful for nuclear weapons programmes!? - but that they could be just what we need. Incidentally, I know there are various other clever reactor proposals. What stage are proposals and demonstrations at? And why do journalists seem to be more passionate about the idea than nuclear power companies?See More

Climbing Mount Everest vs Taking Drugs

Here's some more food for thought. Enjoy! Concern over Everest death rate: "The death rate has remained at one death for every 10 successful attempts to climb Everest for many years, the British Medical Journal report states. ...Dr Charles Clarke, a neurologist and head of the British Mountaineering Council, said mountaineering had inherent dangers which climbers needed to take precautions against. "Anybody who wants to…See More

Cognitive Liberty vs Harm Reduction

On the subject of what kind of approach reformists should take, I happen to think that the reform argument should be won - and has the most chance of convincing others - on the basis of reducing the various harms associated with drug use and drugs trade/prohibition, but that added liberty is a bonus. But while the following is partly based on American law, I think the idea of 'cognitive liberty' is a very important one…See More

Liberal Youth motion?

I'm currently at the Lib Youth conference. Anything goes for emergency motions and I've been encouraged to submit one regarding Trident. Can anyone help write one in the next 12 hours?, particularly as my internet access is very limited? It doesn't need to be perfect. I was thinking of something along the lines of:conference notes that govt has deferred the decision on renewing trident til at least 2016.The estimated cost of tridentConference believes nuclear weapons are bad...Conference…See More

Need help creating a LDDPR leaflet

I've been jotting down some ideas for a LDDPR leaflet but would love some help! I might print some off for the Liberal Youth Conference this weekend (so any emphasis on liberalism and youth issues is good!). It may also form the basis of a presentation and would be available for all to use. So, first of all, what should the structure be like? Here's a rough outline of the structure I have at the moment:-----Current drugs policy - i.e. prohibition - is:1. Inconsistent - within the illegal drugs,…See More

Liberal Democrats against Murdoch's huge influence on the media.

This group believes that Rupert Murdoch and Newscorp have to much influence. Murdoch currently controls around 40% of the national newspaper market and could soon own BSkyB. The media, vital for freedom of speech could soon be controlled by Murdoch.

Gender and Drugs

Why are women more against drug use?In my experience many women have the view that "People shouldn't need to take drugs/alcohol to have a good time". I've heard that independently from lots of women. Has anyone else heard this? Does this stem from some deep gender disparity? Men as risk-takers, women as safety-conscious mothers? That's not to say that women are / would be against reform. Ewan's poll showed that they (as a group!) are consistently less fond of light regulation but often prefer…See More

Hello Adam!

Thank you for Adding me.  I cannot say much as this very moment (to anyone) as I have a Severe Mental Illness and my mind is playing tricks on me, and I am being plagued with 'spooks'.  I don't have normal memory access at this moment, and am having to use most of my mental resources to drive the Illness back.

Take Care

Hello Adam, my name is Raymond Lawrie and, I am only just getting familiar with how to use "this site. I have, after some time, managed to get a blog online and am awaiting approval for another. I have also worked out how to leave comments on my own page and others, which may or may not be a good thing.

I have looked at the site several times and although there is a wide range of content I think we should be more active in looking at and understanding what is really driving the coalition and essentially what drives the Conservatives.

My fist blog is rather long and you are, of course, at no obligation to read it, but if you do I would be grateful for your comments regardless of them being positive, negative, confusing or creative!

Thankyou Adam

Raymond
