As a new member, I have been browsing through various groups. I have read about the need to support the British film industry, by those who seem to be working in the film industry. .

I have read about the need to get involved with Facebook, which can develop rapport through informal social networking.

Last, but not least, I have come across this group extolling the virtues of YouTube, video blogs etc. to get our message across. All three groups possibly indicating that there are LibDem members with enough knowledge and skills to help move things forward.

It suddenly struck me that if we could coordinate all these groups into one focus group, looking to see how we can integrate the latest media and ideas into a “powerful marketing tool” it would make a huge difference in getting our message across and in receiving feedback from our constituents; especially the younger constituents, such as students.

I am thinking of the exposure we would have and the opportunity to correct misconceptions that would be afforded by social networking and combined use of video. Blogging could provide us with digital and chatty sound bite “editorials” on events that can be freely seen by millions on Facebook, Twitter et al.

Would it be a good idea if we can come together in some sort of focus group to develop ideas and to seek volunteers to implement those ideas in maintaining a strong profile with the electorate?

Richard - Go for it, a video how ever 'rough' will be better than nothing and will show that you're keen for others to see it. Post it on your own youtube site too.
I think people need to see how many people around them will be voting LibDem.

Richard - I'd say go for it. As local parties I would think will welcome
all the help they can get

I'm an amateur video enthusiast, and I'm thinking about offering my services to my local party. Seems like there's quite a lot of scope here: video blogs, mini-docs, interviews...

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Not talking about local candidates ( as too expensive ) just the party in general nationally

Dale and Matt

This is the thing that doesnt make sense to me, Lib Dems dont have much money and have to fight to get on tv a little and pay
a lot for election ad designs, poster designs, tv vid bits etc.

But the Party nationally have the whole membership to ask
with free help on and to make vids ( national party funds must
stretch to a few camcorders or decent mobile phones that can
film),
now have a free channel to upload the best of them

now can advertise it on national and local party literature they give
out anyway for freeso people can see them on the net
but havent?,

Same applies to General Election campaigns, posters, slogans
Date of the election had to be by June this year. Could have started
up last june but didnt and still hasnt now? Or might be wrong and they already do??

I agree with Chris, video content would help boost traffic to the websites through SEO and would make great posts/content for social media sites such as facebook and twitter.

The main thing I've found when dicussing the Lib Dems, is that younger people believe a Lib Dem vote is a protest vote, that the policies are not competive to Tory or New Labour - short, interesting videos would help debunk these ideas.

In East Riding the Tories have sent DVD videos to voters rather than just a series of leaflets and this has proved very successful. The Lib Dems however apparently lack the funds to do this.

I think it's feasible for activists in Lib Dem target seats to produce a video to promote their local campaign but the problem is the cost of distribution. If a DVD delivered to each target voter is not possible, it still may be effective to have a video aimed at each target seat available to view online, which would of course be free and the abundance of leaflets we distribute can direct voters to their respective video.

In the new digital age of TV, it must surely be possible to have party election broadcasts specific to each region, if not each constituency. I live in a Labour held target seat and many of the voters here will see Nick Clegg giving a PEB and automatically think of David Cameron and turn off!
If they see their local Lib Dem PPC explaining why he/she is a better person to represent their specific constituency, I think they will be more inclinded to 'stay tuned'.
I personally know a couple of out-of-work producers who would be willing to produce a Lib Dem video for free. If I know a couple (and I don't get out much!) then there must be plenty around the country.

What about inviting people to make their own 1- 3 minute video about Lib Dem policies or campaigns Best ones get links from main LD website amongst others
