Anti-Christian campaigners are trying to take over the Lib Dems, warns
Vincent McKee'
Given the historic Liberal roots among the Free Churches, and the
involvement of several Christians in senior positions — such as
Shirley
Williams and
Tom McNally (both observant Roman Catholics), and the
Methodist lay preacher
Alan Beith — the manner in which the party has
abandoned its diversity to facilitate the most strident anti-Christian
campaigners is ironic. It is also self-defeating, as the
other parties manage a prudent balance. Labour, mindful of its large
Roman Catholic vote, does not allow the party’s Christian heritage to be
wholly extinguished, while the Conservatives, though no longer the
de facto voice of Anglicanism, nevertheless assert the harmony of Church and State.Only
the Liberal Democrats, influenced by militant humanists such as
Evan
Harris MP and
Jenny Tonge, have apparently relished the part of the
political “anti-Christ”.
Please note that the term 'militant' must now mean 'people who get on and do things'. The term Militant Atheist/Humanist/Secularist, that may seem clever at the moment will hold no weight in the future and may even be a good way to highlight active atheists?
