Tottenham, London, can now be added to the list of cities in the Western world (i.e Europe and America) that have seen riots in recent years. In the last week, even Tel Aviv, Israel (of all places)…Continue

A frequent question that appears here, and elsewhere, is 'What do we stand for?'We seldom, if ever, answer the question. We stand for the individuals right to know thay they matter more than the state…Continue

A few proposals which I´d appreciate some feedback on: Already many countries are seriously considering decriminalising marijuana, including in South America and the state of California. The UK…Continue

The events of the past six months have been eventful, exciting and turbulent for LibDems. Right now, it is difficult to see where things for ther party go from here. Let´s remind ourselves that back…Continue

No - Nick Clegg is leading our MPs in support of his view of saving the UK economy. The trouble is it does not include all of us. There is some doubt the Tories are even succeeding in that endeavour but the risks of becomming like Greece where the contrast between normal citizens and the very rich cheats and fraudsters is almost as great as here. We are suffering from the Thacher legacy of "look after yourself. " If we dont nobody else will. Can you see the Chinese, Brazil or Indians bailing us out when they dont bother with more than half their own populations?
No
Comment by Jon Algar on Thursday No Salim he is not. We are openly supporting policies that prevent a fair, free and open society. Look at the recent support we gave to the tax and welfare reforms, all aimed at hitting the poor. Liberty? I can remember Nick asking us for a list of unnecessary and restricitive laws to scrap. How many went? Instead we are introducing more and more legislation from the EU that is restricting our liberty. Equality? We are blindly following a failed economic policy that hits the poor and rewards the rich. Private companies continue to squander public money and the cost of living continues to spiral creating more inequality. Community? We are publicly supporting housing and home office policies that are ripping communities apart.
We have failed to deliver on any of our core ideology Salim and instead we still bang on about our successes on issues that nobody cares about. When will we learn that people are not that stupid.
Do We Still Agree With Nick ? "The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity". Is Nick leading us to that direction ?
Comment by Doug Anderson on Wednesday With the lurch from our traditional political ground, the loss of faith of the nation due to the education fees broken promises, the mauling we took in the recent elections and now Vince Cable being called a 'Socialist' because he has had the courage to disagree with a right wing donor to the conservatory party - we are have lost our position. We had the opportunity to lead without losing our political position but have surrendered our integrity for five years of power.
Comment by Jon Algar on Wednesday ....... or we could just elect a LibDem as our leader.
In the interest of the party, the members should collectively guide him about the "ups and downs" that we experience in different parts of the country. Then it is up to him to decide the best course of action.
Comment by Jon Algar on Monday In government our leader is the Liberal Democrats Salim. That is the nature of British politics.
It is better to guide our Leader collectively, rather than criticise the Liberal Democrats endlessly.
Comment by Paul Catherall on October 13, 2011 at 9:49 Lady Nicholson and Lady Tonge were the only Lib Dem peers to vote against the government. Lady Shirley Williams, a leading Lib Dem opponent of the bill, may not to have voted.

With the support of the LibDems Lords for the triple fee, academies and NHS breakup, what is really left of this party's progressive credentials? These are the most regressive changes to health and education in ours or our grandparents' generation. As I said in my 'coalition blog' group, god help the generations who have to struggle with the consequences of this coalition.
