Afraid I'm not sure where my copy is. It was originally filed in the office at Haddington House but not sure where Ingrid the PA put it when we moved to John Muir House. Judy Hayman was also asking. I was going to try and track down copies and check if its on line. The bulk of it was based on the Lib dem Manifesto for 2007 as the SNP manifesto was 6 lines on their leaflet.

Last year we started a SWOT analysis of what had/hadnt been achieved in wards/cabinet remits. I have mine and Barry, Sheena and Stuart should have theirs. Typical of Paul McLennan initiatives its not been followed through., Chrsitine Dora the Administration Research Assistant was doing the work and was recently asking what was happening.

Ive been working on a survey for local use which will need tweaking. Surveys were a good way before the 2007 election to get information on local issues for campaigns. More informative than canvass on voting intention as it was an optional box with choices to number - most people filled it in and so it gave an idea of who not to go back to. The big issue in 2007 was the Labour proposal to introduce coastal parking charges and we had a big petition in Dunbar. Since then we've been able to reject the suggestion at each year's budget.

Once the survey is ready Ive suggested Darren might like to come out with it as an experience of door knocking. I'd be happy for you to come along too. More the merrier.

Also if you wanted to join me at a surgery you'd be welcome although experience is that most people phone or e mail these days. If nobody came we could have a chat about the councillor role.

I'm also planning a skills audit of local members - to note what's been achieved in the ward since 2007 and to ask how members may be able to help in the 2012 campaign.

What ideas did you have for manifesto?

I think we need to watch SNP for their ideas on centralisation of public services in contrast to the Lib dem localism agenda. Certainly adult social care should stay with local authorities and not move to NHS and we should not move to single police and fire forces. Sheena and I have concerns about the speed of push to shared education and children's services with Midlothian and about the push towards increased powers for Enjoy.  No mandate from the electorate for these ideas.

You may want to go to the Federal conference in Birmingham in September. Lots of training for councillors etc. I am going.

You may also want to join ALDC - its the organisation for councillors within the Lib dems. Useful campaigning materials and you get a free My Councillor website - although I tried to change mine earlier in the year and crashed it as they were changing facilities at the time. Still trying to correct it...

ASLDC (Scottish part of ALDC) is having a session for councillors/council candidates on Saturday 27th August at the Salutation Hotel in Perth. I'm hoping to go although Id need a lift.

Hope to meet you sometime.

Hi Jacqueline

Have you got a copy of the "Contract with the People"  So I can have a look over it.

Have a few things I would like to push but better looking at historic issues first

Hi Kelvin

Welcome to Lib Dem Act.

I think I'm the only one of the 4 Councillors in East Lothian who is registered with Lib dem Act.

I noted at my reselection interview the need to work on a manifesto.

Much of out last manifesto became the Contract with the People. The SNP had a back of a postage stamp manifesto.

We need to regain our control of that manifesto.

Issues include Transport

Public Services - no to a single police force

Renewable energy - love or hate turbines

The extent of shared services between Mid and East Lothian

Rebekah, Haddington Farmer's Market are very sticky on who they allow in on their "charity type" stall.
The Election Agent hands over the deposit using the 'Election Account'.

Thanks Rebekah. Since I'm in Leith it makes sense to support the neighbours!

Just a query - when a Candidate is standing for a Constituency (unless as an Independent), does the Local Party put up the deposit or the Candidate him/herself?
