Lib Dem Act

To achieve gender balance we need a Britain where children are always safe and welcome.
At the moment we, the Lib Dems, hold meetings with no free childcare provision which excludes parents from policy discussion and, of course, must end today.
As a progressive party, in a coalition where there is an emphasis on work,
it is of course absolutely vital that free childcare is available at every party meeting.
We must seek to include everyone in our debates, especially parents, who have
the greatest responsibility in our society, ie. bringing up the next generation.
May I suggest (as an immediate step) that we only use venues where childcare
is already available, such as theme parks, ships or perhaps simply
pubs where children are welcome. We must be the party of the next generation.
Certainly this should be a "flagship" policy of our party:
A Britain where children are always safe and welcome.
Eg: Our policies should include a childcare requirement for all public and work places.
This would be an honest way to bring real gender equality to work and public life.
I invite contributions on "Lib Dem ACT" to orient our party toward families.
In this way we would surely win a majority in the next parliament.
With very best regards, Paul

Bright idea, Paul ! I will always support "A Britain where children are always safe and welcome". Where do you suggest the money should come from to pay for the "free childcare" ? Next, you have to treat everybody equally ! So, if you provide "free childcare" to parents who have the greatest responsibility in our society, you will have to provide "free childcare" to every parent in this country, because every parent will argue that they have the greatest responsibility in our society and that they are looking after the elders of tomorrow ! So, the idea is good about "A Britain where children are always safe and welcome" but ...Gosh, we have to find the Dosh ! lol !
Thank you very much for your reply Salim.
The free childcare would go alongside work and public services so therefore
enable participation in society. Actually childcare provided like this is much less costly than
the present system of childcare tax credits and has the advantage of not requiring upfront
cash from parents (a major barrier to starting work). So to answer the question this approach
would save money and create a better society at the same time.
All the best,
Paul
It's a very good reply. I understand what you are saying about "free childcare would go alongside work and public services so therefore enable participation in society". Where do you suggest the money should come from to pay for the "free childcare" at every Lib Dem party meeting or conferences ?

OK - it is not free but the facilities are there, so this does enable families to go and the parents to take part in debates and Policy-making.
Thank you very much for your input.
A Britain where children are always safe and welcome has to be the top priority for all of us.
Free childcare at party events can be fully funded by a levy on alcoholic drinks, eg. a ten pence
levy on every pint of beer would raise MUCH more than enough, lol. Plus, it would make our party
events more meaningful, differentiating us from the other parties who think children should be "seen
and not heard" I am so happy the Lib Dems are the better party that cares for the next generation.
My children are growing older now, they are quite easy to look after now, but when small it is not
that much fun in the UK. So more policies: All railway platforms and bus stops must be at the same level
as trains and buses so that pushchairs (and wheelchairs) can simply roll on and roll off. NO MORE STEPS !
Playrooms on every train and special family waiting rooms at stations. No more driving past schools and
a new focus in the Police force on road safety, with reduced speed limits and very tough penalties for dangerous
drivers. 20 mph maximum speeds in towns.
No bar or pub to have it's license renewed unless there is provision for families, at all times.
No more discrimination in employment against those with children.
A Britain where children are first will create jobs and encourage investment. Most importantly
we can defuse the demographic time bomb and make sure there are enough future workers to pay our pensions.
All the best, please keep up the good work, Paul
