Lib Dem Act

Having lived much of my life in the country and valued the calm and peace of the area I am convinced that peoples quality of life could be improved by enabling them to access the countryside.

There are however a number of challenges as the paths that are in existence tend to be overgrown and are not maintained. Wheelchairs and mothers with buggies etc are at a great disadvantage. Finding suitable areas to either park your car or that have public transport links can be a problem.

How can we address these issues without turning the countryside into a concrete jungle so that more people can enjoy the benefits?

Luckily, I grew up in the countryside, you are so right Ian, it is so important to have access to the countryside.
Cars are a major problem, causing danger and pollution, so lower speed limits as well as much better public
transport would really help. The Lib Dem policy of reopening railway lines is brilliant and travelling by electric
trains can be 100 percent green, using renewable electricity. I propose road charging as a way to raise revenue
and also a way to shift travel towards sustainability; cycling, walking and public transport. The cyclists need
safety and reducing speed limits and tough enforcement action against dangerous drivers will make the
countryside more accessible for everyone.
With best regards, Paul
